"Success is dependent on effort."
---Sophacles, Greek Dramatist
Whenever we put effort into something we expect to succeed. If you don't try one can never really know their true potential. Effort is having the drive and the motivation to never give up. Effort is shown through the work we produce.

How to Take up College Studying
How to Take up College
Studying
Part 2
Choose Where to Study
Where you should study depends on two factors: the
environment in which you are best able to concentrate and type of work you are
planning to do.
·
The best places to study have good light, a
comfortable temperature and enough desk space—usually a dorm room, your
apartment, or the library.
·
For completing problem sets or brainstorming
possible test questions, you may want to study with a group or at least in a
setting where fellow students are available for discussion.
·
When you are reading book chapters or working on
a research paper you are probably better off in a less social environment.
Improve Your Study
Habits
Here are simple steps you can
take to help you get a handle on studying:
·
Have a routine for where and when you study.
·
Choose reasonable and specific goals that you
can accomplish for each study session.
·
Do things that are harder or require more
intense thought at your most productive time of the day.
·
Take breaks if you need them so you don’t waste
time looking at material but not absorbing it.
·
Get to know students whom you respect and can
study with or contact to ask questions.
·
Keep up the workload and seek help when you need
it.

Extreme "Sportsmanship" Award
Jenna Huff
High School Student wins the Extreme "Sportsmanship" Award from the U.S. Olympic Committee
Jenna Huff was just Sophmore in High School when she won this award. Being a talented athlete and participating in 5 sports she was in season for cross-country. During this 3 mile race Debb and Jenna were competing to proceed into the state finals. Jenna trying to trail Debb was on her last sprint. Deb coincidentally popped out her hip plate. Jenna catching up to the injured Deb decided to assist her to finish the race Jenna explains "It was the right thing to do." Jenna helped the injured and leading player Deb across the finish line giving Deb's team the lead to state.
this type of sportsmanship is umcommon on the West Coast, but on the East Coast there are more acts of kindness. And this sportsmanship is amazing, because even if it was against the rules Jenna felt as though she was doing the right thing to help Deb across, even at the cost of her team and placing in the race. By a sacrifice of giving someone the gate to the final, she recieved something more in turn by being awarded the Extreme "Sportsmanship" Award from a far greater organization.

Develop Good Study
Habits
In college, you’ll need to build on the study skills that
you learned in high school. The demands of a college class are probably more
rigorous than those you are used to.
You can succeed by knowing what to expect and how to handle
it.
Think of a college as
a full-time job, in which you spend 40 hours a week on a class, labs, study
groups and doing homework.
Being organized and
using your time well are essential. Learn more about TIME MANAGEMENT , and use
the guidelines below to develop your study skills.
Decide When to Study
Work out about how many hours you need to study every day.
Then make a schedule.
·
Figure out what blocks of time you have available
throughout the day, in the evenings and on weekends.
·
Consider what time of day you are the most
alert. – There are morning people and night owls – and try to schedule yourself
accordingly.
·
Think about whether you do better sitting
studying for a few hours at a time or sitting down for marathon sessions.

10 Management Tips for Students
10 Time Management Tips for Students
Tips 5-10
Tip 5: Review your notes Every Day
Reviewing helps you
reinforce what you’ve learned, so you need less time to study before a test. You’ll
also be ready if you get called on in class or have to take a pop quiz.
Tip 6: Get a Good Night’s Sleep
Your brain needs to rest to perform at its peak. Lack of
sleep makes the day seem longer and your tasks seem more difficult.
Tip 7: Communicate Your Schedule to Others
If phone calls or text messages are proving to be a
distraction, tell your friends that you are only available at certain times of
the day and not to expect a response at other times,
Tip 8: Become a Taskmaster
Give yourself a time budget and plan your activities
accordingly. Figure out how much free time you have each week before you add
any commitments.
Tip 9: Don’t Waste Time Agonizing
Instead of agonizing
and procrastinating, just do it. Wasting time an entire evening worrying about
something you’re supposed to be doing is not productive, and can increase your
stress.
Tip 10: Determine Your Priorities
You can’t do everything at once. Establish the importance of
each item. Then set a realistic goal that is attainable.

3) Heart:
Always do what is right so your heart, your conscience, will feel peaceful.
When you do wrong, your conscience will prick you and create regretful
sensations within your heart. When you do what you honestly feel, you won’t
have any regrets. Your heart is your internal compass—it gives direction and
discernment. Just like a magnetic compass gives directions, even true north,
your personal compass, your heart, will point you in the true north, the exact
directions and paths you need trod.
4) Study scriptures and other
sacred literature daily. In other words, feed your spirit because your spirit
needs spiritual food just like your physical body needs temporal food to
survive. Pondering, meditating, and reflecting are excellent soul-sharpening
activities. Try writing your thoughts, feelings, aspirations, concerns, and decisions.
Get into the habit of daily improving your body (physical
fitness) your mind, your heart, and your soul.

Loyalty
During an everyday softball game an averagew girl whose dream it was to hit beyond the fence accomplished her goal. When it was Sarah's turn to bat, as her body swayed he knee kept idle. She tore her ACL (a ligament in her knee) and was unable to preceed to the next base. Her goal was incomlpete, because she could not finish her homerun on all the bases. Turning back to 1st base the loyalty of Mallory and Liz from the opposing team asked the umpire if they could assist her to complete the bases. Although it was against the rules the Umpires allowed it. Sarah in tears with a roaring crowd fulfilled her dream.
This act of loyalty is not one that you can see everyday. People are too competitive have compassion for the other team. Greatness can be found in every person.

Teens should never
get too busy living to take to renew themselves. When teens “Sharpen the Saw”
they are keeping their personal-self sharp so that they can better deal with
life. It means regularly renewing and strengthening the four key dimensions of
life – body, mind, heart, and soul.
1)
Body. Eat wholesome foods, fruits, vegetables, legumes. Avoid illegal drugs,
smoking, alcohol, tobacco products, tattooing. Exercise regularly and
effectively. Get plenty of rest at night and get up early in the morning. “Early
to bed early rise makes a man healthy and wise.”
2)Mind.
Think positively. Read. Study. Think. Analyze. Seek to read a good book each
month. Then each week, ask intelligent questions. Observe. Develop your mind

Habit 6: Synergize
Synergy
is achieved when two or more people work together to create something better
than either could alone. Through this habit, teens learn it doesn’t have to be “your
way” or “my way” but rather a better way, a higher way. Synergy allows teens to
value differences and better appreciate others. Synergy is the reward, the
delicious fruit you’ll taste as you get better at living the other habits,
especially at thinking Win-Win and seeking first to understand. Learning to
synergize is like learning to form V formations with others instead of trying
to fly through life solo. You’ll be amazed at how much faster and farther you’ll
go. Synergy doesn’t just happen. It’s a process. You have to get there. And the
foundation of getting there is this: Learn to celebrate differences.
A good band is an
example of synergy. It’s not just the drums, or the guitar, or the sax, or the
vocalist, it’s all of them together that make up the “sound.” Each band member
brings his or her strengths to the table to create something better than each
could alone. No instrument is more important than the other, just different.

During adolescence, youths are in a time of self identification. Some find identity sooner than others and are srtong willed. Those still lost in the world need a sense of foundation and follow the strongest leader. In society the most popular person has the most influence. They have the most friends, are smart, knowledgeable and part-take in most social conventions. A lost person will cling to them or see this popular person as an example to model themselves. They will try to become popular, buy the same clothing, get a new style, talk differently, but an image is perishable.

Habit 5
5. Seek First to Understand, and then to be Understood
Because most people don’t listen very well, one of the great
frustrations in one’s life is that many don’t feel understood. This habit will
ensure your teen learns the most important communication skill there is: active
listening.
Why is this habit the key to communication? It’s because the
deepest need of the human heart is to be understood. Everyone wants to be
respected and valued for who they are—a unique, one-of-a-kind, never-you-be-cloned
individual. People won’t expose their soft middles unless they feel genuine
love and understanding. Once they feel it, however, they will tell you more
than you want to hear. People don’t care how much you know until they know how
much you care. Listen with your eyes,
heart, and ears. 7 percent of communication is contained in the words we use. The
rest comes from body language (53 Percent) and how we say words, or the tone
and feeling reflected in our voice (40 Percent). Most people are eager to talk
and had rather talk than listen. We have one mouth and two ears. This means we
should listen twice as much as we talk. Learn to listen and listen to learn.
Listen, really listen, for understanding. Seek first to understand then to be
understood---LISTEN

Valentine's Day
VALENTINE’S DAY
|
But today in our modern society Valentine’s Day is a commercial
Holiday. People show affection towards one another on this day. Couples
choose to buy heart balloons and buy affection with one another. It is amazing
how so many people follow this holiday. It has become a social custom to
purchase or gift an item to someone. Some people choose chocolates, candy, take
one another out to dinner, or confess their love.
This “holiday” is the cause of having so much love in the
air. I think that it is just a commercialized way for companies to make
business. Last minute gifts, late night runs, feeling the pressure of having to
impress someone with “The Gift.” There should not be any type of pressure to
give anyone anything. Social conformity or not you should always have
appreciation for that “Special Someone” daily.
I do not think that people should wait or one day out of the
year to do something special. I believe that if you want something to be super
memorable, it has to be on the least expected days. Be unique and try to do
something off beat. Don’t love just for one day and be done, this is a
continuous thing especially if you have a partner. Go out to dinner and
occasionally tell that significant other how you feel about them. Don’t wait
for Valentine’s Day, take time out of your own day to do something spectacular.
7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens
7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens Habit 4
4. Think Win-Win
Teens can learn to
foster the belief that it is possible to create an atmosphere of win-win in
every relationship. This habit encourages the idea that in any given discussion
or situation both parties can arrive at a mutually beneficial solution. Your
teen will learn to celebrate the accomplishments of others instead of being
threatened by them. Win-Win is a belief that everyone can win. It’s both nice
and though all at once. I won’t step on you but I won’t be your doormat either.
You care about other people and you want them to succeed. But you also care
about yourself, and you want to succeed as well. Win-Win is abundant. It is the
belief that there’s plenty of success to go around. It’s not either you or me.
It’s both of us. It’s not a matter of who gets the biggest piece of the pie. There’s
more than enough food for everyone. It’s an all-you-can-eat buffet.
Win-Win always
creates more. Perhaps the most surprising benefit of thinking Win-Win is the
good feelings that is brings on. The true test of whether or not you are
thinking Win-Win r one of the alternatives is how you feel. Win-Lose and Lose-
Win thinking will cloud your judgment and fill you with negative feelings.
Win-Win will fill your heart with happy and serene thoughts.
It will give you confidence. Even fill you with light. Think Win-Win or no
deal.

Habit 3: Put First Things
First
Habit three is about Will and Will Not power. This habit
helps teens prioritize and manage their time so that they focus on and complete
the most important things in their lives. Putting first also means learning to overcome
their fears and being strong during difficult times. It’s is living life to
what matters most. Putting first things first deals with things that are:
Important or not important, urgent or not urgent. Let’s look
at the four quadrants of time management.
Quadrant 1: Things that are Important and Urgent.
Quadrant 2: Things that are Important but not Urgent
Quadrant 3: Things that are Not Important but are Urgent
Quadrant 4: Things that are Not Important and Not Urgent
1. Important & Urgent
|
2.Important but not Urgent
|
3. Not important but are Urgent
|
4. Not important and Not Urgent
|
Quadrant 2 is the ideal place to spend your time, doing
things that are important but not urgent. Here’s where priorities come into
play. The result of Quadrant 2 are:
1. Control your life
2. Balance
3.High Performance
So, in what quadrant are you spending most of your time? The
key is to shift as much time as possible into Quadrant 2 and this is
accomplished by planning. Spend more time planning and incorporating the most things
first, things that matter most. Keep your eyes on the prize and reach for it.

This statement is partially true to some
degree. There are good habits that must take place to become successful. Do
well in your studies, have a good reputation, have innovation. But that is not
always the case. There are certain things in life that are given away to

those that work extremely laborious days are left behind.

If teens aren’t clear
about where they want to end up in life, about their goals, about their values,
and what they stand for they will wander, waste time and be tossed to and fro
by the opinions of others. Help your teen create a personal mission statement
which will act as a road map and direct and guide his decision-making process.
“Keep your eye on the
prize.” Determine your desired prize and don’t quit until you have realized the
achievement of your prize. Then set another prize, another goal or desire that
you would really like to achieve. Begin with the achievement of your prize in
mind. Visualize and then realize. Start by having a target in mind; know where
you are going.
One prize or goal you
definitely need to establish for yourself is the prize of an honorable
graduation from high school-that you will receive your diploma honestly and
with integrity- that you earned it with perfect honesty.
