Valentine's Day

VALENTINE’S DAY
Valentine’s Day is a day that is named after St. Valentine.

He was a person who was selected by the people to conduct weddings although it was forbidden by the law. He was imprisoned by the Roman Catholic Church and was said to have written a letter to his valentine. The forbidden love is what’s assumed when though of Valentine. (I’m not sure what this has to do with Valentine’s Day)

But today in our modern society Valentine’s Day is a commercial Holiday. People show affection towards one another on this day. Couples choose to buy heart balloons and buy affection with one another. It is amazing how so many people follow this holiday. It has become a social custom to purchase or gift an item to someone. Some people choose chocolates, candy, take one another out to dinner, or confess their love.

This “holiday” is the cause of having so much love in the air. I think that it is just a commercialized way for companies to make business. Last minute gifts, late night runs, feeling the pressure of having to impress someone with “The Gift.” There should not be any type of pressure to give anyone anything. Social conformity or not you should always have appreciation for that “Special Someone” daily.

I do not think that people should wait or one day out of the year to do something special. I believe that if you want something to be super memorable, it has to be on the least expected days. Be unique and try to do something off beat. Don’t love just for one day and be done, this is a continuous thing especially if you have a partner. Go out to dinner and occasionally tell that significant other how you feel about them. Don’t wait for Valentine’s Day, take time out of your own day to do something spectacular.
