"Your future is created by what you do today, not tomorrow."
Robert Kiyosaki

We live and learn everyday, there are some things we add to our knowledge and some things we let slip past us. Our future, depends on what we act on today. If you don't study for a test chances are you won't get a good score. But if you take the time today, and just put in an extra 30 min of your time, thenthat will help you for the next test.

There is truth to this quote. There is not Grey area in a black and white world. Either what you do is correct of is wrong. Although it seems harsh to be separated by such a large divide, it is a line that should be avoided. There is no grey area, and people today try to mix the two side to make some middle ground. But there is no middle ground, you either do or don't.

Tip 5: Keep a List of Questions

When you feel confused about something you’re reading, write down any questions you have. Sometimes your questions are answered as you read further. If not, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Remember, teachers create assignments; they’ve read the texts and are familiar with them. When you have specific questions, your teachers can provide answers that will help you better understand the material. Learning is rooted in questions developed and asked by the learner.

Asking questions to yourself, to the teacher, and to others, is a great learning method. When you cease to ask questions, you cease to exist to a great extent. Read actively by silently asking questions as you read. Questioning immerses you into the material you are reading and therefore will expand your mental capacities more than almost anything else.

The philosopher Sir Francis Bacon said, “Knowledge is Power.”

Improving your reading comprehension is the key to gaining important knowledge and making the most of your education. So pick up a book…and a pen.

"When i was teaching basketball, I urges my players to try their hardest to improve on that very day, to make that practice a masterpiece.
This rule is even more important in life than basketball. You have to apply yourself each day to become a little better. By applying yourself to the task of becoming a little better each and every day over a period of time, you will become a lot better. Only then will you be able to approach being the best you can be. It begins by trying to make each day count and knowing you can make up for a lost day."
--John Wooden

As long as this statement may be it hold a great motivation towards becoming a better person. Every day, people should strive to mold into the best they can be utilizing the most of their abilities. As RalphEmerson highlights that conformity is what holds back the flow of human creativity. There is a moment when everyone has a moment of discomfort. But that is only natural to become and surpass your limits into something spectacular.

Tip 3: Do Research

Literary critics have written vast numbers of analytical and critical pieces on countless books. If you’re having trouble understanding a particular text, do some research and see what knowledgeable sources have to say about it. In addition to increasing your comprehension, you’ll also be showing initiative, something teachers always like to see. Always use legitimate and scholarly sources, not condensed study guides. Going the extra mile in your research elevates your achievement 10-fold.

Tip 4: Use a Dictionary

Make sure you have access to a dictionary when you’re reading. You can often figure out the meaning of an unfamiliar word by using context clues, but sometimes you can’t. Rather than simply skipping over the words you don’t know, take the time to look them up. The results are well worth the effort. Your comprehension will increase greatly, and you’ll build you vocabulary at the same time

5 Tips for Success

Reading and Writing go hand in hand. The better you understand a text, the more likely you are able to successfully communicate your thoughts about it in writing. So it’s important to develop strong skills in both areas. With that in mind, here’s how to improve your reading comprehension.

TIPS 1-2

Tip 1: Annotate

Be an active reader. Instead of passively reading a text, take notes about important story elements, key factual information and significant ideas in the text.

Tip 2: Not the Author’s writing Style

Every author writes with a purpose, using deliberate methods to successfully relate specific information to the audience. When you’re reading, look for patterns in the author’s writing. For example, you may notice a repetition of key words, phrases or symbols—or the use of a distinct type of sentence structure. Authors employ these writing strategies to help readers comprehend a central argument or theme, so be sure to explore how these techniques create meaning.

The Three Don'ts
Don't whine
Don't Complain
Don't make excuses
-John Wooden

When there are thing that must be done, there is no use in hindering the process of their completion. What is done is for a purpose and should not be taken for granted, or unappreciated. Don't whine because in actuality its just a waste of breath, if you really wanted to stop; you would've already. Don't complain because nobody wants to hear it, the only person who is pessimistic is the complainer. And don't make excuses, the lack of commitment in the end effects not only you the most, but if you play on a team of any kind, you should be able to support your end of the deal.

3. Set Attainable Goals

If you’re having trouble writing a 25- page paper for class because it seems like such a big job, don’t focus on that final number. Break the paper down and consider each section of your paper individually. You can handle any project in small chunks.

4. Find a Social Support Network

Create a group of people around you who want to help you succeed. Mentors can be teachers or family friends who can give you guidance and help you develop new skills. Counselors can help you with planning you courses and starting to explore colleges. You can also reach out to friends and peers who can motivate you by listening and sharing ideas.

5. Acknowledge You Accomplishments

Give yourself a quick reward when you complete an assignment or task. Take a walk, send an email, get a snack. Then move on to the next project.

5 tiops for Staying Motivated

5 Tips for Staying Motivated

Tips 1-2

To succeed in high school and college, you have to do your best at all times. But sometimes it’s hard to stay motivated, even when you really care about the work you’re doing. Here are five ways to stay on the right track.

Focus on High-Impact Activities

They key to success in school is staying focused on your course work. Make a list to get an overall picture of your workload before you start to tackle any of it. Then, make a plan. Although it’s tempting to do the simplest assignments first, those that take more time and effort to accomplish are probably the ones that you’ll learn the most from. To determine what your priorities are, rank your assignments in the order of their importance. Then rearrange your time and devote more energy toward those that have the greatest impact on your course work and grades. For example, even though all homework assignments are important, studying for a midterm exam takes priority over writing a paragraph for English class. As you complete each task, think of it as another step on your way to college success.

2. Create New Challenges

Changing your approach can help you stay interested in what you’re doing. If you’ve been given an assignment similar to the one you’ve done in the past, think about it in a different way. If you wrote an essay for a creative writing assignment last year, try a poem this time. For book reports pick a history book instead of another biography.

Take advantage of Any Free Time
If you have a study period or a long bus ride, use the time to review notes, prepare for an upcoming class or start your homework. Flash cards are a great learning tool. They are easy to make, easy to handle, and are a marvelous tool to help you learn and remember anything. Punch a hole in the upper left had corner of each index card and connect the stack of your flash cards with a ring. Then the cards are bound and not flopping around. Flash cards bound like this act like a small book with pages. You can even have separate ringed stacks for each subject. WHATEVER YOU WANT TO REMEMBER PUT IT ON A CARD.
Study with a Friend
Get together with friends and classmates to quiz each other, compare notes and predict test questions. Consider joining a study group.
Communicate
If you  have concerns about the amount or type of homework you have, you may want to talk to your family, teachers or counselor. They can help you understand how much time you need to allot for homework and how to manage your tasks.
Celebrate Your Achievements
Reward yourself for hitting milestones or doing something well.

"Character is higher that intellect."
--Ralph Walsdo Emerson

If character is higher than intellect then personality is above education. I have mixed reactions for this quote. Although character is very important, the mind's ability to retain information and use it to warn future generations is equal if not greater. It depends on a vertain situation if character is held higher than intellect, like in social issues. To gain and attract people's attention, you need charismatic personality and characteristics that in some cases is held higher than intellect. But in most institutions intellect is held in high reguards. In some places it still exists and should to keep a higher standard of living and sociality. If all falls to characteristics then there will be a decrease in education and the will to stay aware of surroundings rather than being known for being nice.

Take Control of Homework

So it doesn’t Control You

Although very few students love homework, it does serve a purpose. Homework helps you:

·         Reinforce what you’ve learned during the day.

·         Build study habits that are essential in college.

·         Prepare for your classes.

·         Get a sense of progress.

Here are some tips to help you deal with homework more efficiently and effectively.

SET THE MOOD

Create a good study area with everything you need (for example, a calculator). If you don’t have a quiet place at home, try your school or local library.

KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN

Make a list of everything you need to do, and note all the deadlines. Do the more difficult assignments first, so you don’t have to face them at the end.

STUDY AT THE SAME TIME EVERYDAY

Even if you don’t have homework every night, use the time to review your notes. If sitting down to work is part of your normal routine, you’ll approach it with less dread. Also, you’ll become a pro at using time productively.

"I think it better it do right, even if we suffer in doing, than to incur the reproach of our conscience and posterity."

In the case of Robert E. Lee standing in the side of the confederates, he stood for what he believed in. Many other white Southerners followed him as he lead them onto the battlefield. He believed that he was doing what is right, and in turn he would not feel any regret or guilt for his actions. Although there may be pain and suffrage, he confessed that it will all be worth while.
There are several examples of this may be in sports as you train. There will be day in which you dare not show to practice because of a temporal pain. Try out the Cornell system, but if it doesn’t work for you, experiment with other methods. Ask your classmates how they take notes or ask a teacher for advice. Taking good notes requires practice. 1.       Get the speaker’s main points. Don’t write down every word you hear.

2.       Leave blanks in your notes to add explanations later.

3.       Organize as your write. Pay attention to cues such as repetition and emphasis

4.       Indicate main and supporting points as you go.

5.       Jot down key vocabulary, important facts and formulas.

6.       Ask questions. If you’re confused, it’s better to ask while the material is still fresh in your head.

Anything

Most recently I had the Linda Marquez Soccer Banquet; which included the Boys' and Girls' soccer team. This ceremony held for both Varsity and Junior Varsity. Everyone was dressed, and well groomed(unlike practice) and we enjoyed each other's company. The LMHS Cheer leaders had a performance for us and parents were just absorbing the atmosphere. Then the JV teams went; first girls and every player got a medal with their name on it, and a certificate. Their coach was not present because she was burdened with another obligation at work. Then the boys JV went and their coach spoke for a long while. He gave his back story of his career and how he came to be the coach, and like the girls received the medal with their name and a certificate upon the stage.
next it was the varsity teams. The Girls Varsity team walked upon the stage and our coach said a few words of endearment. The season went well and our middle Christina was awarded with the best mid-field, and Johanna our left wing, was awarded the best offensive player. Kudos went to them for their accomplishments. Then s few were left and I was left last. Then my coach presented the MVP award. I was astonished. I had never won any recognition like that in my life and it was a prideful moment for me. The trophy was heavy and I became teary-eyed. But the best part was the MVP award was MVP of the Central League! AMAZING!! That really put the cherry on top.
I showed my parents the award, as a team we all danced a bit and walked off stage with a grace, because we also won Central League Champs our first season! It was so awesome! Then the Boys' varsity continued with the ceremony and their head coach had many things to say about them. They all got medals and certificates once again and then Miguel Valle was awarded Best offensive player with 11 goals, Ruben Renteria was awarded with the Best Defensive Player, and Luis (Goalie) was awarded with The Central League MVP as well. It was a great day and everyone enjoyed themselves.

There is no certain time when you cannot perform up to par. When you have a uncanny faith in yourself there are no limitations that are far to reach. It depends solely on each individual. Some take a path that is notorious for failure, pessimism. The courageous take a slender path in which, they believe and trust themselves. The moment you have the strength to support yourself and be independent, an internal strength formulates; you can do anything. Once that choice is made; you can do anything. When you are self-aware of your goals; you can do anything. The knowledge that, you already took the most difficult step to trust yourself, you already know you can do it.

Getting the most out of your high school and college means studying hard and using your time in class wisely. An effective note-taking strategy can help you do both. Here are the basics.

Stay Organized

It may seem obvious, but your class notes can only help you if you can find them. When you’re taking notes be sure to:

·         Keep all your notes in one place.

·         Date, and number pages; keeping them in order makes it easier to understand them later.

Before Class

Review the materials assigned for that period thoroughly. Bring a list of any questions you may have.

Emphasis on the Written Word

Most of all communication, as well as the course work, in distance learning classes is written. That’s a plus, because the focus on the written word gives you the opportunity to develop as a write—and strong writing skills are essential to academic success. However, if writing is a serious weakness for you, virtual learning may not be the best educational option until you improve your skills. Yes, most of distance education is the written word; therefore, you need to be a good reader, love to read, and love writing also. Most of your assignments will be written and submitted to the instructor in the written format. Your penmanship needs to be excellent, spelling great, sentence structure above average, vocabulary extraordinary. You need to have online access with reliable equipment. If your Internet communications at home isn’t working, you can’t do online education from home and will need to go to someplace where you do have access to the internet.

Decide Whether It’s Right for You

Distance education isn’t for everyone, but it just might be for you. You should really seek it out and give it a try. You never know until you try. You might even fall in love with distance education. While distance education may be the perfect alternative for some students, it’s not the right choice for everyone. So carefully consider the needs and interests and give distance education a try; then decide if it’s right for you.

Challenging Aspects of Distance Education

·         Lack of in-person interaction: Some educators argue that both teacher-student and student teacher contact are essential to learning. In a distance-learning classroom, you may be able to participate in class discussions online in chat rooms, message boards or Web conferences—but it’s not the same as being with other students in a classroom.

·         Different levels f quality: Many distance-education programs supply an excellent learning experience, but others may not. Research any program before signing on to make sure its rigorous enough. If you are choosing your own program, look into its accreditation before enrolling.

·         The need to self-start: Distance education lets you make your own schedules. If you have a hard time getting motivated, this might not be the ideal educational setting for you.

Being triumphant in this event, he was not shy to claim and celebrate his prize.
Soon the next day he went to the officials since there was a priblem. How could a gold-medalist have a problem? As it turned out, Schwazer was using illegal substances. Blood Doping is what he admitted to. There was a great reaction when he had come out honest with the truth.
Although he cheated, he came out with the truth at the end. Returning his gold medal he was relieved that he admitted to this crime of cheating.

You may want to take a class that your high school doesn’t offer. Under some circumstances, you can still enroll in the class- through distance learning.

Distance education means taking a class without being physically present where it is being taught. Internet-based technology lets students participate in lectures and class sessions online from almost anywhere.

Some high schools agree to recognize distance-learning credits when they don’t have the resources to offer a course themselves. Distance education is often used to increase options in rural areas and for AP courses.

For you, it might mean doing self-tutorial at home in the evening, or participating in a class that is 1,000 miles away, along with other high school students. Check with your school counselor to see what’s available.

·         Start Slowly; Don’t commit to working a lot of hours immediately.

·         Avoid time conflicts by planning your class and work schedules as far ahead of time as possible.

·         Use your time efficiently. You can use 10 minutes waiting in a line to go over a few pages of assigned reading. If your job has a lot of down time and your boss had no objection you can use slow periods to do schoolwork.

·         If you commute to your job on public transportation, bring your schoolwork with you, to work along the way.

·         Be flexible and willing to make sacrifices. You may have to cut down on some other things you’d like to do because of your school and commitments.

·         If you have too much time on your plate, admit it. Then cut back as needed.

Marion Jones

Marion Jones was a phenomenal performer in the 200 sprint. In the 200 Olympics in Australia she won the the gold medal for her event. She was excited and ecstatic all as once. In her perfect performance she had a small crack in her victory. She cheated. Jones used performance-enhancing drugs to better her performance. She went from hero to zero in a matter of years. As being an athlete, you expect all to play fair, but she was not being a honest person. She had lied to federal officials about her performance-enhancers and had her medals taken from her along with jail time. Not only does this reflect badly as her character, but it also reflects badly on the country. To represent something grander than you and to give it a bad name is shameful to the person and the face of the country. but as all people are faulted, she wasn't the first to commit such a crime and she wont be the last.
