In this statement, someone cannot only hear what is being said to them. A person can speak but if no person listens in return there is a lost cause. A person that observes their environment listens well, because he is learning. Taking notes, is to heighten and hold in memory information and knowledge. Just as you can take notes by watching, you can also take notes by listening. And wanting to receive that information though his ears is wanting to remember and retain.
